Railway Minister Advocate Nurul Islam Sujon said the work of expanding the railway has been taken upon the instructions of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. All the districts and ports of the country will be brought under the rail network in phases. He made the remarks while inspecting Ramna Railway Station in Chilmari upazila of Kurigram on Friday (12 November).
The Railway Minister said the Prime Minister wants to make the railways a modern and up-to-date communication system. New trains are being introduced and railway lines are being extended to connect the districts which do not have railways. In the meantime, a train called Kurigram Express has been launched to connect Kurigram with Dhaka. This train is being modernised to run up to Ulipur station. Later it will go up to Ramna station. Besides, rail communication with the Chilmari seaport will be further improved. The Railway Minister said the Prime Minister has also taken initiatives to increase the capacity of the Chilmari river port.
