RAB has arrested five members of a ring for allegedly being involved in theft while transporting export goods in a covered van. The detainees are- Md. Al Amin (28), Md. Nizam (22), Md. Shahjahan (51), Md. Mainul Hasan Asik (20) and Md. Nurunnabi (26). They were arrested on Friday (24 December) night from Dhumghat BSCIC industrial area in Chhagalnaiya upazila of Feni. The RAB informed this in a press release on Saturday (25 December).
According to RAB, the owners of various factories have been complaining for a long time that goods are being stolen from their factories while transporting export goods to Chittagong port. The country to which the goods are being sent is not receiving the goods as per the agreement. This is ruining Bangladesh’s reputation abroad. After the allegation, RAB started investigating the matter seriously. The agency has stepped up surveillance on various places and individuals.
They were detained on Friday night while removing goods from a covered van that was carrying export goods from a garment factory in Dhaka to Chittagong port. Although RAB was able to arrest five of them, five more members of the ring escaped.
RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Public Relations) Lt. Niaz Md. Chapal said the five detainees have been extensively interrogated. According to their confessions, operations are being carried out to arrest other members of the ring.
