The port authority has requested all the shipping agent organisations to regularly update the information in the online berthing monitoring system of Chittagong port. The request was made in a letter signed by the port’s deputy conservator on Sunday (23 January) to the President of the Shipping Agents Association.
According to the letter, the online berthing monitoring system of Chittagong port is being operated in an automated computerised manner. From the time of the lockdown, instead of holding daily berthing meetings at Bandar Bhaban, the shipping agents were conducting berthing activities by providing information on the online berthing system from their respective offices. But in recent times shipping agents have not been regularly updating the information online. This is disrupting berthing activities.
The letter to the President of the Shipping Agents Association also asked all member shipping agent organisations to take necessary steps to update the information regularly in the online berthing monitoring system.
