Government has adopted timely national logistics policy: Minister of Commerce

Mentioning that this country of about 17 crore people is a big market for domestic and foreign traders, the Minister of Commerce said, ‘About 45% of them have good purchasing power. Neighbouring countries India and China are two big markets. Bangladesh has a lot of skilled manpower. There are all kinds of investment opportunities here. The Government of Bangladesh is providing special facilities for investment. It is possible to produce goods at low cost in Bangladesh and easily export them to other countries.’

The Minister of Commerce spoke as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of a discussion meeting titled ‘Foreign Direct Investment for Logistics Sector’ on Sunday (29 May) at Hotel Westin in Gulshan. The meeting was initiated by the Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry in collaboration with the embassies of Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Head of Delegation of the European Union. In it, Angshuman Mustafi, Country Manager of Maersk in Bangladesh, presented an essay on the main topic.

Tipu Munshi said that Bangladesh is moving forward rapidly in all fields under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. This country is now standing on strong economic strength. Development is now visible in Bangladesh. Bangladesh will become a developed country in 2041 by achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) announced by the United Nations in 2030.

He said that the country’s export trade is growing rapidly. The government has adopted a necessary and timely national logistics policy to increase trade. The government is working on the sustainable development of industrial mills, communication systems, and trade facilities.

The Minister said that the logistics sector is very important for the import and export of the country. The government is working to create a business-friendly and sustainable environment, as well as all kinds of cooperation needed to increase investment and trade in the country.

Senior Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office Md. Tofazzal Hossain Mia spoke on the occasion virtually as the special guest, President of Nordic Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tahrin Anam, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Md. Mahbubur Rahman was present at the meeting and all made speeches.

Among others, Danish Ambassador to Dhaka Winnie Estrup Petersen, Norwegian Ambassador Aspen Richter-Swendsen, Swedish Ambassador Alexandra Berg von Linde and European Union Head of Delegation Charles Whiteley were present.
