Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that Bangabandhu Military Museum (BMM) will inspire the young generation as well as children to join the armed forces to protect the independence and sovereignty of the country. She was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Bangabandhu Military Museum, which meets the international standard of architecture, on Thursday (6 January) morning.
The Prime Minister participated in the main event held at the Bangabandhu Museum in Bijoy Smarani, Dhaka through a video conference from Ganobhaban.
The Prime Minister said that the Bangabandhu Military Museum will be a milestone for the country’s armed forces. Through which the young generation and children will be able to know about the real history of the great liberation war as well as the contribution of the armed forces in the liberation war. I think it will be one of the best technology-based military museums in the world. As there are separate exhibitions for the Army, Navy, and Air Force, just as the younger generation will be more interested in joining the armed forces, so will the young and old be able to learn about it. We will be more motivated to defend our independence and sovereignty. Therefore, the museum is not only for exhibitions, it will attract the young generation as well as inspire them to love the country.
The Prime Minister further talked about the history of the people of Bangladesh- like the history of our liberation war and independence. The armed forces are a symbol of our sovereignty, so we are making arrangements so that the people of our country can know about it, can acquire knowledge, can understand their activities.
Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Defence Abu Hena Mostafa Kamal, Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral M Shaheen Iqbal, and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Sheikh Abdul Hannan spoke on the occasion from the museum. Members of the cabinet, members of parliament, senior civilians, and military officials were present.
The Bangabandhu Military Museum is built on 10 acres of land on the west side of the Bangabandhu Novo Theatre. Where various equipment of the military have been presented before and after independence. The museum has six separate sections, including galleries dedicated to the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force. There is Bangabandhu Corner in the gallery of each force.
There is a multipurpose exhibition gallery with an art gallery, briefing room, souvenir shop, first aid corner, open stage, 3D cinema hall, multipurpose hall, seminar hall, library, archive, sculptures, murals, cafeteria, and a nice fountain. The wide open area has created a nice atmosphere.
The Bangladesh Military Museum was established in 1987 in Mirpur Cantonment to inform the people about the glorious history of the Bangladesh Army. Which was later shifted to its present location on the west side of Bangabandhu Planetarium next to Bijoy Smarani Road in Dhaka in 1992.
