The lighter ship operator Water Transport Cell (WTC) has announced a 15% rise in fares due to rising fuel prices. The company informed this in a statement. It is also mentioned in the statement that the new additional rent has come into effect from 15 November.
The previous fare for transporting raw material clinker to the cement factory was Tk 415 per tonne. With a 15% increase, the fare will now be Tk 477.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the heads of Bangladesh Cargo Vessel Owners Association, Coastal Ship Owners Association of Bangladesh, Container Ship Owners Association of Bangladesh, and Inland Vessel Owners Association of Chattogram.
According to the statement, the current fare list of WTC has been fixed at 15% by adjusting the increased price of fuel oil with the fixed fare for transporting goods from Kutubdia, the outer anchorage of Chittagong port, and various ghats of Karnaphuli River.
About 1800 lighter ships operated by WTC unloaded imported goods from large ships at the outer anchorage of Chittagong port and transported them to about 40 places in the country.
