Inauguration of ‘Japan Desk’ at Chattogram Chamber

The Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) and the Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) have jointly launched the ‘Japan Desk’ at the Chattogram Chamber’s World Trade Centre.

The desk was inaugurated by the Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh Ito Naoki as the chief guest on Tuesday (7 December). Chattogram Chamber President Mahbubul Alam, Senior Vice President Tarafdar Md. Ruhul Amin, Vice President Syed Mohammad Tanvir, JICA Bangladesh Representative Hayakawa Yuho, JETRO Country Representative Yuji Ando, ​​President of the Japanese Commerce and Industry Association (JCIAD) in Bangladesh Hikari Kawai, President of Japan-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) Asif A. Chowdhury was present.

Ito Naoki, Ambassador of Japan, said that Bangladesh’s exports to Japan increased by 13.4% from July to October this year as compared to the same period last year. The country will earn 3,000 US dollars per capita in the next five years due to its fast-growing economy. A survey is being conducted to increase Japanese investment in Matarbari in greater Chattogram and Bangabandhu Industrial City in Mirsarai.

Chamber President Mahbubul Alam said the desk was set up as a first step after the signing of a memorandum of understanding with JBCCI and JETRO to further increase Japanese investment in Bangladesh. Next year, the Bay of Bengal Growth Summit will be organized in collaboration with the Embassy in Chattogram to mark the 50th anniversary of the Japan-Bangladesh friendship.
