The USS Tulsa, a US Navy warship, arrived at the Chittagong port jetty on Wednesday (8 December). This warship participated in the joint training and exercise ‘Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training-2021’ (CARAT) of the Bangladesh Navy and US Navy. Captain Masudul Karim Siddiqui, Chief Staff Officer of Chittagong Naval Area Commander, welcomed the ship when it arrived at Chittagong port jetty. At this time a well-equipped band of the navy welcomed the ship by playing traditional musical instruments.
During his stay in Bangladesh, Commander William Dvorak will pay courtesy calls on the US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Regional Commander of the Chittagong Naval Area Rear Admiral M Mozammel Haque, , and Commander BN Fleet Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad. In addition, the US ambassador and the ship’s captain will attend the closing ceremony of the exercise on 9 December at the BNS Issa Khan School of Maritime Warfare and Tactics (SMWT).
The exercise, which began on 4 December, was attended by US Navy’s Littoral Combat Ship USS Tulsa and MH-60S Helicopter and Bangladesh Navy Ship Somudra Avijan, Prottoy, Durjoy, and Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA). The main objective of this joint training and exercise is to develop the existing good relations between the United States and Bangladesh navies as well as to increase the technical capabilities of the navies of both the countries and to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on advanced technology. After the exercise, the ship will leave Bangladesh on 11 December.
