189 industries made investment proposals in three months

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has said that investment proposals have increased in the country after starting to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. If this domestic and foreign investment proposal is implemented, about 29,000 new people will be employed in the country.

According to the company, in the first three months of the current fiscal year, 189 industries have made investment offers to BIDA. Of these, 177 local companies have sought to invest Taka 18 thousand 586 crore, which is Taka 5 thousand 887 crores more than last year. Accordingly, investment proposals at the local level have increased by 46% this year. BIDA said this in a recent press release.

At the same time, foreign investment offers have also increased. According to BIDA, between July and September of the current fiscal year, seven 100% foreign and five joint venture companies have proposed a total investment of Taka 1 thousand 877 crores. In the last fiscal year, 20 industries, both 100% foreign and jointly owned, had proposed to invest Taka 1 thousand 285 crores.

According to the quarterly statistics of the industries registered with the company, in the three months from July to September of the current 2021-22 fiscal year, domestic and foreign investment proposals worth a total of about Taka 20 thousand 464 crores have been registered. During the same time of the last fiscal year, the total investment proposals were worth Taka 13 thousand 984 crores.

At the local level, most of the investment proposals came from the chemical industries sector. In addition, a significant number of investment proposals have been received from the services, engineering, and textile sectors. This year, foreigners have wanted to invest the most in the agricultural sector.
