Chittagong port broke all previous records in container handling before the end of the year by overcoming COVID-19. Including the latest container handling on Friday (17 December), this number is 30 lacs and 95 thousand TEU. Earlier, the highest container handling was in 2019. Back then, 30 lacs and 88 thousand containers were handled through the port.
By the end of the year, the container handling may increase to 32 lacs.
The factories, which had stopped after the second wave of the pandemic, have become operational again. Imports of industrial raw materials are also increasing to keep production running. In particular, just as the import of raw materials in the garments sector has increased, so has the export of manufactured goods, which has led to an increase in the number of handling.
This achievement has been made possible by the relentless work of the officers and employees of all levels of the port under the competent leadership of Rear Admiral M Shahjahan, Chairman of the Port Authority.
About 98% of the sea containers in the country are transported through Chittagong port.
