Air strikes on Bangladeshi ships in Ukraine

The Bangladeshi ship ‘MV Banglar Samriddhi’, which was stuck in the waters of the port of Olvia, Ukraine, has been attacked by airstrikes. The rocket struck the ship’s bridge at 5:20 pm local time on Wednesday (2 March). This incident caused the ship to catch fire. However, the fire was brought under control with the immediate action of everyone.

According to the message sent by the ship’s chief engineer Omar Faruk Tuhin (BMA, batch 35), third engineer Hadisur Rahman was killed in the attack. His home is in Betagi in Barguna district. Omar Faruk also said that some people sustained different levels of injuries.

Omar Faruk said that a tug boat came and move the entire crew of the ship to a safe place.

The ship has been stuck since it reached the Ukrainian port of Olvia since 24 February. There are 29 Bangladeshi sailors on board.
