Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has been appointed as the regional director for South Asia of the World Association of Investment Promotion Agency (WAIPA). At a meeting of the WAIPA Steering Committee held in Dubai on Monday (28 March), it was decided to appoint BIDA as the regional director for South Asia for the term 2021-23.
WAIPA is an international non-governmental organisation governed by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Act, established in 1995. WAIPA serves as a forum for investment promotion agencies (IPAs), which build networks among member countries, attract investment, attract foreign investment, regional cooperation, and exchange technical assistance and information.
Bangladesh has already established itself as a country with a high-growth economy and is creating various investment opportunities in the strategic sector, said BIDA on taking over as WAIPA’s regional director for South Asia. Even with the global COVID-19 pandemic, Bangladesh will emerge as a 500 billion dollar economy by 2026.
BIDA will focus on achieving greater regional cooperation in the role of regional director for South Asia. In particular, it will work to increase the capacity of member countries and exchange information.
