The pre-auction inspection of the 108 luxury cars worth crores of Taka coming to the country under Carnet de Passage or duty-free facility is starting from Sunday (5 June). Anyone wishing to participate in the auction can inspect these vehicles with entry permission from the Chittagong Customs Authority. The inspection will continue till 9 June.
After the inspection, bidders (participants in the auction) will be able to submit tenders for e-auction (online auction) and manual auction on 12 and 13 June for the purchase of the 108 cars auctioned. The tender will be opened on 19 June. The 108 luxury cars include BMW, Mercedes Benz, Land Cruiser, Land Rover, Jaguar, Mitsubishi, Toyota, and Lexus Jeep made in Germany, Japan, the USA, and the UK.
According to the Customs House, the vehicles brought with the carnet facility have been stuck in Chittagong port for about 10-15 years. By inventory, 85 vehicles were auctioned in August 2016, 113 in May 2017, 111 in May 2018, and 22 vehicles were auctioned for the fourth time on 16 April 2019. But every time the prices were inconsistent, it was not possible to sell the car to the bidders. 112 cars were put up for auction at the latest e-auction and manual auction held on 3 and 4 November last year. The bidders submitted tenders for 110 vehicles. Only 3 vehicles were approved for sale after verification of submitted tenders and other conditions.
