A huge explosion has taken place at BM container depot in the Sonaichhari union of Sitakunda in Chattogram. The fire service has so far confirmed the deaths of 37 people. The bomber struck around 11 pm on Saturday. An area of at least four kilometres from the scene was shaken by the blast. The window panes of the nearby houses broke.
Police, fire service, and local sources said the fire broke out inside the BM container depot loading point around 9 pm. Members of three units of Kumira Fire Service went to the spot and tried to control the fire. The fire spread from one container to another at around 10.45 pm. Since one container contained chemicals, a loud explosion occurred.
