In the just-ended fiscal year (2021-22), Chittagong port has handled 32 lacs and 55 thousand containers. The growth has been more than 5% compared to the previous fiscal year. The port has also maintained growth in product handling. The total product handling in the last fiscal year was 11 crores and 81 lac tonnes. Product handling has grown by about 4%.
The authority said that they have had to deal with many challenges in the last fiscal year. The Russia-Ukraine war had an impact. The congestion of Singapore and Colombo ports also had an effect. Even then, the activities of Chittagong port were on the go 24 hours a day. It has been possible to achieve growth in container and product handling through the joint efforts of all.
98% of the container transport in the country is done through Chittagong port.
