Record export of 5 thousand and 200 crore dollars

The country’s exports of goods have finally reached the milestone of 5 thousand crore dollars. In all, in the 2021-22 fiscal year, goods worth 5 thousand and 208 crore dollars have been exported, which is equivalent to Tk 4 lacs 86 thousand and 687 crores in domestic currency. This income is 34.38% more than the 2020-21 fiscal year.

The government’s target for export earnings in the outgoing fiscal year was 4 thousand and 350 crore dollars. COVID-19 was a big challenge in the face of achieving this goal. On top of that, there was the Russia-Ukraine war. However, in the end, Bangladeshi exporters have set a record by exporting 858 crore dollars more than the target.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) officially released the updated export earnings data on Sunday (3 July). It shows that last June, 490 crore dollars’ worth of goods were exported. This income is 37.19% more compared to June last year.

According to the EPB, in the outgoing fiscal year, in addition to readymade garments, more than 100 crore dollars’ worth of home textiles, leather and leather products, agro-based products, and jute and jute products were exported. In no previous financial year has The combined export of 5 sectors never exceeded hundred crore dollars in any past fiscal year. However, the lion’s share of the product exports came from the ready-made garments sector as usual.

In the 2021-22 fiscal year, garments worth 4 thousand and 261 crore dollars were exported, which is 35.47% more than in the 2020-21 fiscal year. This is also the highest export of garments in the history of the country in one fiscal year. Earlier, in the 2018-19 fiscal year, the highest export of garments was 3 thousand and 413 crore dollars.

According to the EPB data, home textiles worth 162 crore dollars, leather and leather products worth 125 crore dollars, agro-processed products worth 116 crore dollars, and jute and jute products worth 113 crore dollars were exported in the outgoing fiscal year.
