The Chittagong Port Authority celebrated the Great Independence Day with due dignity. Earlier on Sunday, CPA Chairman Rear Admiral M Shahjahan hoisted the national flag at the memorial of the Bandar Republic Club premises, took the salute, and paid tribute to the martyrs by laying wreaths.
At that time, all board members of the port, departmental heads, all level officers-employees and president-general secretary of Chittagong Port Employees Union, retired freedom fighter officers-employees and other leaders were present.
On Independence Day, the national flag was hoisted on Bandar Bhaban, workshops, residential buildings, educational institutions, clubs and ships, and other vessels anchored at the port.
Discussion meetings on ‘Independence Day and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s leadership and development of the country’, and documentary show were held at Shaheed Md. Fazlur Rahman Munshi Auditorium.
In the speech of the chief guest, the port chair said that under the strong leadership of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the greatest Bengali of a thousand years, people from all walks of life charged into the movement for independence. As a result, we have gained our freedom.
He also said that efforts should be made to strengthen the hands of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to build a smart Bangladesh by 2041. Later, he distributed prizes among the winners of essay, drawing, and quiz competitions participated by the students from various educational institutions of the Port Authority.
On the day, special prayers and prayers were also organized in all the mosques, churches, temples, and Buddhist monasteries under the authority of the port. Special quality food was served to the inpatients at the Port Hospital. Apart from this, the captains of the ships stationed at the jetty of the port were greeted with fruit baskets and flower bouquets as a memento. Earlier on 25th March for one minute and from 9:00 PM to 9:01:00 AM, a blackout was observed outside the protected area of the port in memory of those killed in the genocide of 25th March in 1971.
