Tk 6 lacs fined for attempting to evade customs

The importer had to pay a fine of Tk 42 lacs for attempting to evade customs. They had to pay the entire tax as they were caught by customs officials. There were also additional fines and penalties of Tk 6 lacs. Chittagong Customs House reported this information on Sunday (8 May).

NB Trading House, an importer from Bangshal in Dhaka, imports a chemical called calcium carbonate from China. The customs tax of the product was Tk 6 lacs and 82 thousand. However, the officials were suspicious about the consignment. They decided to inspect it. When the consignment of five containers was opened, their suspicions were proven to be true. Officials found out that the importer imported glucose in the name of calcium carbonate to evade customs.

The customs tax on 120 tonnes of glucose found in the consignment is about Tk 42 lacs. Evaded customs tax has been acquired and fines have also been acquired. In all, about Tk 1 crore and 30 lacs, more than the announced amount has been collected from the importer.
