Eleven individuals and institutions were awarded for their contribution in increasing jute production and exports

The government has given jute awards to 11 traders, scientists, farmers, and institutions for their contribution to increasing the production and export of jute and jute products. Agriculture Minister Md. Abdur Razzak handed over the awards at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka on Sunday (6 March) on the occasion of National Jute Day. Textile and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi was also present on the occasion.

The awardees were HM Zakir Hossain, Chief Scientific Officer of Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI), Sahanur Alam, a farmer from Kushtia, Md. A. Razzak Prang, a farmer from Pabna, Ranu Agro Industries of Nilphamari, Razzak Jute Industries of Dhaka, Akij Jute Mills, Karim Jute Spinners, Janata Jute Mills, Touhid bin Abdus Salam, a trader from Dhaka, Kohinoor Yasmin, and Md. Abdul Hakim, of Savar.

During the chief guest speech, Agriculture Minister Md. Abdur Razzak said that the demand for jute and jute products in the local and international markets is increasing. If the potential for export of vegetables and fruits can be fully utilised along with the potential of jute, the annual export income of jute and agricultural products will soon exceed 1 thousand crore dollars.

Textiles and Jute Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi and Director General of the Department of Jute Md. Ataur Rahman also spoke under the presidency of Textile and Jute Secretary Md. Abdur Rauf. Apart from this, some traders involved in jute production and trade also spoke on various issues of the jute industry.
