Lowest expatriate income in 18 months

Expatriate income, one of the major sources of foreign exchange earnings, has taken a hit. Last November had the lowest expatriate income in 18 months. In November, the expatriate income was 155 crore and 37 lac dollars. Earlier, in May 2020, the income was 150 crore and 46 lac dollars. In the following months, the expatriate income was always higher. In July 2020, expatriate income exceeded 259 crore dollars.

However, exports of goods, another major source of foreign exchange earnings, are on the rise. Last November, goods worth 404 crore dollars were exported. This income is 31.25% more compared to November last year.

Meanwhile, in the first five months (July-November) of the current fiscal year 2021-22, exports of goods amounted to 1 thousand 979 crore dollars, which is equivalent to Tk 1 lac 68 thousand and 215 crore in domestic currency. Exports in the first five months of this year were 24.29% higher than the same period last year.
